Papago Brewing in Scottsdale, AZ, named one of the Top 50 Places to Raise a Pint by BeerAdvocate, features 30 taps with a constantly changing lineup of great beers from around the world. In addition to the on-tap selection, Papago Brewing also offers a very large selection of bottled beers for take-out or on premise consumption and a wonderful dining menu. Located in the Papago Plaza shopping center at the intersections of Scottsdale and McDowell Roads, Papago Brewing offers plenty of free parking. On-Tap:Papago Brewing offers its own brews, rotating seasonally. On the lighter side, the Orange Blossom Hefeweiss is a German-style wheat beer. Weighing in at 5% ABV, the Orange Blossom is refreshing and not too heavy, a nice way to beat the desert heat. A pleasant mid-range is the Ryan’s Irish Red, another 5% ABV selection. For those who enjoy a big beer, Oh Brother, a Belgian-style strong dark ale gives a kick at 12% ABV. None of these three ales are heavily-hopped and leave a nice, smooth finish. In addition to the Papago Brewing selections, the taps offer a wide variety of American and world ales. The current lineup can always be found at the Papago Brewing website. When the Young’s Double Chocolate Stout is on tap, ale lover’s should try the Young’s with a splash of Lindeman’s Framboise – a delicious combination of chocolate and raspberry not to be missed. Bottled Brews:Papago Brewing has a wide selection of bottled beers and ales available, as well as Redstone Meadery’s meads. All are priced by the bottle and can be consumed at Papago Brewing or taken home. Mixing and matching a six-pack is a great way to try a variety of beers from brewers such as Dogfish Head, Avery, Stone and Abita. For those not accustomed to craft ales, the bottled selection includes mass-market beers such as Budweiser, Coors, Miller and Corona. The Food:Papago Brewing offers a wide variety of menu choices, with appetizers, large salads, sandwiches and pizzas. This is not “bar food”. As an appetizer, the Caprese is the traditional Buffalo mozzarella with Roma tomato salad for sharing. The Quesadilla or the Spinach Artichoke Dip are also very good, with plenty to share. The dinner salads are large, and the Greek Salad and Spinach Salad are both delicious choices. Grilled chicken can be added to any salad. While natives of New Orleans may turn up their noses at the thought of a Muffaletta in the desert, Papago Brewing’s Mighty Muffaletta is a large, delicious sandwich any Creole would enjoy. Papago offers a wide range of out of the ordinary bread options, such as Nine-Grain and Rosemary Foccacia. All sandwiches are served with choice of a delicious potato salad, not to heavy on the mustard, Poore’s Potato Chips or a side salad. The dough for Papago Brewing’s pizza crusts is made fresh and hand-stretched. While it is possible to pick from a selection of 21 toppings, the “house pies” are wonderful tasting. The Margarita pizza has just enough garlic, and the T-Rex will satisfy any carnivore with its combination of four meats. Papago Brewing’s menu offers several vegetarian-friendly options.
